-The way I write my songs is that I have to believe what I’m writing about, and that’s why they always end up being so personal – because the kind of artist I like, they convince me, they totally win me over straight away in that thing. Like, ‘OH MY GOD, this song is totally about me.’
– I love love songs. But I love pop music as well: Girls Aloud, Kylie, the Spice Girls, East 17, Mika.
-Be brave and fearless to know that even if you do make the wrong decision, you’re making it for a good reason.
-I wouldn’t be able to write a song like “Someone Like You” and get someone else to sing it because it’s so personal. It’s like giving away your heart.
-In real life, I am emotionally confused, which enables me to write songs. I’m a Pisces, and they say that Pisces are very sensitive. If men were just honest with themselves, they would see that they all have that side.
-It’s a really big struggle for me to write a song. Songs take either 30 seconds for me to write or a year or two to piece together, depending on the song and how I’m feeling on any given day. I don’t really like to write music at all unless I am completely unbothered by touring.
-As a pop star, you don’t have to be that smart for people to think you’re intelligent.
-It’s much more interesting to embrace who you really are rather than waste energy pretending to be someone else.
